Continuing Care Communities Reform Comes To Florida

Law360, New York ( June 24, 2015, 12:08 PM EDT) -- On April 24, 2015, the Florida Legislature passed C.S./H.B. 749, a bill that was strongly supported by trade associations representing continuing care communities ("CCC") and life care residents. A CCC is a retirement community that offers a continuum of services and living arrangements at a single location, including independent living apartments, assisted living, memory support care and skilled nursing care. CCCs are regulated by the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation ("OIR"), the Florida Department of Financial Services and the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration. Currently, there are 71 licensed CCCs in Florida....
