Privacy regulators across the country have issued a joint resolution calling for action on the growing use of deceptive online design patterns (DDPs) that undermine privacy rights. The resolution, passed at their October annual meeting and announced Nov. 13, was said to outline key measures that organizations can use to adopt privacy-first design practices.

Newfoundland to add more Crown prosecutors
Newfoundland and Labrador has agreed to hire more Crown lawyers following cries of a shortage of prosecutors in the province. On Nov. 13, it was announced the province’s government will be investing nearly $24 million into initiatives to “enhance access to justice and strengthen public trust in the justice system.”

COMPELLING APPEARANCE, DETENTION AND RELEASE - Bail
Application by Nygard for bail pending determination of his convictions and sentence appeal. He sought a stay of proceedings, or, alternately, an order for a new trial and a reduction of the sentence. Nygard was convicted of sexual assault in relation to four complainants and was sentenced to a global sentence of 11 years.
