Alberta law society amends code of conduct rules on single-party communications
Benchers of the Law Society of Alberta (LSA) have adopted an amendment to its code of conduct on single-party communications. he amendment was made at the law society’s June 7 board meeting. In October 2023, the law society adopted several rules, commentary and amendments to the code, proposed by the Federation of Law Societies of Canada (FLSC) through its model code.

Being searched is a common occurrence in prison. I had only been on my range in the assessment unit for a day or two when the first search of our range took place. Without notice, we were all told to go into the common room while a group of guards went through all the cells, searching for anything that might not be allowed. This took 30 or 40 minutes; cells are small and sparsely furnished, so searching is not very complicated.

Court: Class action over lost USB key with personal information of 5,045 persons statute-barred
Declaring the action out of time, the Federal Court has dismissed a certification motion for a class action concerning the loss of a USB key that contained the personal information of 5,045 people, including their social insurance numbers (SINs).
