A California federal judge on Monday trimmed a suit brought by Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. against Countrywide Financial Corp. as part of multidistrict litigation over allegedly faulty mortgage-backed securities certificates, ruling that only underwriter defendants in the case were potentially liable.
