Representatives for asbestos-injury claimants in Owens-Illinois unit Paddock Enterprises LLC's Chapter 11 objected Wednesday to the federal bankruptcy watchdog's bid for an examiner to be appointed, arguing they are already looking into prepetition transactions the U.S. trustee has called into question.

Paddock Enterprises LLC told a Delaware bankruptcy court Monday that the Office of the U.S. Trustee's bid for an investigation into Owens-Illinois Inc.'s transfer of assets and asbestos liabilities to Paddock before putting the subsidiary into Chapter 11 is "without merit."

The Office of the U.S. Trustee objected Friday in Delaware to the proposed representative for future asbestos claims in the Chapter 11 case of Owens-Illinois spinoff Paddock Enterprises LLC, saying it's too early to select a representative or retain counsel for him.

The U.S. Trustee's Office has asked a Delaware bankruptcy court to appoint an examiner to look into glassmaker Owens-Illinois' spinoff of Paddock Enterprises LLC just before Paddock's Chapter 11 filing and the asbestos liabilities it passed to the new company.
