A New York federal judge on Thursday trimmed Goldman Sachs Group Inc. shareholders' suit against the investment bank, preserving their claims about conflicts of interest in Goldman's now infamous "Abacus" collateralized debt obligation that allegedly resulted in a $1 billion loss to investors.

Goldman Sachs Group Inc. told a New York federal judge Monday it had no duty to notify investors in July 2009 that securities regulators were weighing a suit over its Abacus collateralized debt obligation — litigation that later resulted in a $550 million settlement.
