The Alabama Department of Revenue has provided vehicle owners an extension for vehicle registration and property tax payments in addition to a temporary suspension of fuel tax agreement requirements under two recent orders issued in response to the COVID-19 virus.

The department moved any deadlines for vehicle registration and tax payment that fall in March to April 15 and waived any penalties due to the hardships placed on vehicle owners as a result of the state of emergency declared for the novel coronavirus, the department said in an order on Monday.

The requirements for the International Registration Plan and International Fuel Tax Agreement will be temporarily suspended for vehicles traveling through Alabama, which will aid in interstate emergency relief efforts, the department announced in a separate order.
