Mich. Extends Some Tax Deadlines In Response To COVID-19

Michigan will grant businesses a one-month extension on sales, use and withholding tax returns and payments that are due this Friday to assist companies affected by the novel coronavirus pandemic, the state tax agency announced on Wednesday.

The state Department of Treasury will waive late payment or filing penalties and interest on the returns through April 20, the agency said in a notice, dated Tuesday, accompanying the announcement.

The notice specified that that waiver is limited only to sales, use and withholding payments and returns due Friday. The tax relief will not be available for accelerated sales, use or withholding tax filers, the notice said.

"This change will provide some help to businesses as they navigate their way through this state and national emergency," state Treasurer Rachael Eubanks said in a statement.
