Minnesota will offer a one-month sales tax payment extension to businesses that the governor ordered temporarily closed to the public to stem the spread of the novel coronavirus, the state Department of Revenue announced Wednesday.

Businesses identified in Gov. Tim Walz's Monday executive order that barred restaurants, movie theaters, vaping lounges and other businesses from allowing the public on their premises until March 27 will be given until April 20 to make their sales and use tax payments due Friday, the department said.

Businesses should still file their March returns, the department said, adding that the tax relief is available only for monthly filers.
