The Kansas governor has ordered the state Department of Revenue to extend its income tax filing and payment deadlines by three months to offer tax relief in response to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly issued an executive order Monday instructing the department to extend the April 15 deadlines for the state's individual income, fiduciary income, corporate income and privilege taxes to July 15. The state's extended deadlines match the federal income tax extensions and apply to calendar year and fiscal year filers, according to the order.

Kansas also extended its homestead and property tax filing deadlines until Oct. 15, but refund claims are still due April 15, according to a department notice released Monday that outlined the extensions.

Kansas has joined a host of states that have offered tax extensions amid the nationwide spread of COVID-19. On Monday, Kansas had 82 cases of COVID-19, with two deaths attributed to the virus, according to the state Department of Health and Environment.
