Ga. Localities Can Waive Property Tax Penalties Amid COVID-19

By Maria Koklanaris · 2020-03-24 15:00:03 -0400

Georgia's tax agency has advised localities that in light of the novel coronavirus, the law allows them to waive penalties and interest if certain property tax payments are late.

The state Department of Revenue said Monday that the law allows waiving penalties and interest in situations where failure to pay is due to "reasonable cause" rather than simply not filing.

The law is applicable for tax returns concerning business tangible personal property, for boats and airplanes and for mobile homes, according to the department.
