The Tennessee Department of Revenue has extended the due date for filing and paying the state's Hall income tax from April 15 to July 15, the department has announced, citing the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The department said Thursday in Notice 20-06 that taxpayers will have until July 15 to file returns and make any payments that were originally due on April 15. The state said interest and late filing penalties won't be applied to returns filed and payments made on or before the extension due date.

The state's six-month extension date for 2019, Oct. 15, has not changed, the department said. Tennessee this week also extended the due date for filing and paying franchise and excise tax from April 15 to July 15 because of the spread of the virus, which causes the respiratory disease COVID-19.

Tennessee's Hall income tax is imposed on individuals and other entities that receive interest from bonds and notes and dividends from stock.
