The department, in a notice released on Saturday, said it was authorized to extend the payment and filing deadlines because of an executive order issued by Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo, allowing the commissioner of the department to take the action.
With some exceptions, the extension applies to returns for individuals, fiduciaries such as estate and trusts and corporations taxable under certain state tax laws, the department said. The commissioner is also allowing taxpayers to defer all related tax payments due on April 15 to July 15 without penalties and interest regardless of the amount owed, according to the department.
No request is needed to the department to grant the relief, and returns due on April 15 will automatically be granted the filing and payment deadline extension, the department said.
