    11th Circ. Nixes Mexico Tourism Tax Racketeering Suit

    The Eleventh Circuit on Monday rejected a fraud suit from Mexican citizens living in the United States who alleged that seven airlines conspired to charge travelers a $20 to $25 tourism tax for U.S.-Mexico flights, saying there wasn't enough evidence to back up their racketeering claim.

    Mexican nationals are dressing up under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act their otherwise preempted class allegations that airlines unlawfully charged Mexico tourism taxes to exempt travelers, the airlines told the Eleventh Circuit on Thursday.

    Mexican Citizens Urge 11th Circ. To Undo Flight Tax Ruling

    A proposed putative class of Mexicans urged the Eleventh Circuit Monday to overturn a Georgia federal court's dismissal of their lawsuit alleging that six airlines, including Delta Air Lines Inc. and United Airlines Inc., engaged in racketeering to unlawfully charge them millions of dollars in tourism taxes that they are exempt from.
