A California federal judge ruled Monday in a collective action that Costco Wholesale Corp. did not break federal and state labor laws by withholding the balance due on employees' company-issued credit cards from their final paychecks.

A federal court has held that a former Costco Wholesale Corp. employee can bring a collective action accusing the company of improperly deducting from workers' final paychecks any outstanding balance on company-sponsored credit cards, but cannot bring a class action over alleged violations of California law.
