Burlington Coat Factory has agreed to pay nearly $20 million to end both a collective action and a putative class action from assistant store managers alleging they were misclassified as exempt employees and stiffed on overtime wages, according to a bid for approval of the deal in New Jersey federal court Tuesday.

A class of assistant store managers fighting a decertification bid in a collective action alleging Burlington Coat Factory stiffed them on overtime argued Friday in New Jersey federal court that their certification bid was bolstered by a recent ruling upholding the certification of Duane Reade workers, saying its group's members also perform substantially similar duties to each other.
