A New York federal judge on Tuesday gave a preliminary nod to a $6.5 million settlement between the owners and operators of a Bronx housing cooperative and hourly employees that alleged in a class action that they had not been properly paid for work or overtime.

The owners and operators of Co-Op City, a housing cooperative in the Bronx that includes 35 buildings and seven townhouse clusters, asked a New York federal judge on Monday to toss a suit claiming they improperly penalized hourly employees by configuring time clocks to round down and failed to pay them for all hours worked.
