A contractor for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles can't avoid compensating the automaker $3.8 million as its share of a $6.3 million verdict after a jury found both responsible for an ironworker's fall, an Illinois federal judge has ruled, saying the firm must pay while issues with its insurer are settled.

A Fiat Chrysler Automobiles contractor says it shouldn't be on the hook to pay $3.8 million to the carmaker after a jury found it mostly at fault in a suit brought by an ironworker who fell and was injured at an FCA plant, arguing that the judgment against it should be vacated because it insured FCA for injuries and damages arising out of alleged negligence at the worksite.
