    Lack Of Policy Sinks Chicago Cops' OT Suit, 7th Circ. Says

    The Seventh Circuit on Thursday affirmed a lower court's ruling in favor of the city of Chicago over claims made by a collective of Chicago police officers that they weren't properly paid overtime under the Fair Labor Standards Act for after-hours work conducted on city-issued BlackBerrys, saying there was no uniform policy preventing the cops from requesting overtime.

    Chicago told the Seventh Circuit on Tuesday that its police department maintains neither a written nor unwritten policy refusing compensation to off-duty officers answering phone calls and emails on work-issued BlackBerrys, asking the court to uphold a lower court ruling that found likewise.
