An Alabama federal judge on Thursday nixed oilfield services firm Core Laboratories Inc.'s claims that rival AmSpec LLC stole trade secrets by poaching several former Core affiliate employees, a day after refusing to hand AmSpec a quick win on its allegations that Core Laboratories did some poaching of its own.

An Alabama federal judge on Wednesday denied both parties a quick win in Core Laboratories Inc.'s trade secret suit against AmSpec LLC, ruling there were questions surrounding AmSpec's counterclaims that a former worker joined Core Laboratories and attempted to lure away employees of the rival oil field service firm in violation of an employment agreement.

Oil field service firm Core Laboratories Inc. on Friday sued rival AmSpec LLC in Alabama federal court, accusing it of poaching several employees and conspiring with them to steal trade secrets in order to grab Core Laboratories' business servicing a Chevron Corp. refinery.
