Digital media company Vox Media Inc. will pay $4 million to hundreds of sports bloggers and staff at its SB Nation website who said they were misclassified as independent contractors and robbed of overtime pay, according to a proposed global settlement filed Monday.

A D.C. federal judge has granted conditional class certification to Vox Media Inc. site managers and editors in their wage dispute with the company Wednesday, saying Vox's argument that the class members' situations aren't similar is premature.

Vox Media asked a D.C. federal judge Monday to partially dismiss a proposed class action brought by site managers accusing the online media company of failing to pay minimum wage and overtime pay during peak sporting times, saying none of the alleged violations was shown to be willful and thus the typical two-year statute of limitations wipes out some of the claims.
