The University of Illinois defeated a suit claiming supervisors were overly critical of three Black employees because of their race and then disciplined them for complaining about the conduct, with a federal judge ruling Friday none of the men showed the behavior was rooted in bias.

An Illinois federal judge refused to sign off on a class of Black employees in a lawsuit accusing the University of Illinois of failing to address complaints of race-based misconduct, ruling that neither the school's nondiscrimination policy nor its complaint procedure violates federal civil rights law.
