New York City will pay $6.2 million to settle a proposed collective action brought by a group of Rikers Island employees who alleged the city was late in paying their overtime wages and that about $1 million in overtime money was not paid.

New York City cannot duck claims that it willfully denied corrections officers their overtime wages, as a New York federal judge ruled that the workers sufficiently alleged that the city knew or should have known that its pay policies were illegal.
