A split Tenth Circuit panel affirmed a lower court's finding Tuesday awarding $330,000 in attorney fee sanctions against the Ute tribe for pursuing an arbitration proceeding against a former worker purportedly intended to intimidate a witness, with a judge writing in a dissent that the lower court's sanctions ruling went too far.

The U.S. Supreme Court said Monday it will not take up litigation in which a former land division manager for the Ute Indian Tribe sought to recoup monthly compensation he claims the tribe withheld in breach of his contract after he resigned 15 years ago.

A former land division manager for the Ute Indian Tribe has urged the U.S. Supreme Court to review two rulings out of the Tenth Circuit that determined neither state nor federal courts can decide his contract dispute with the tribe because Ute courts have authority over the claims.
