The Seventh Circuit backed a National Labor Relations Board decision finding ADT illegally withdrew recognition from an International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers local and refused to bargain with the union, calling the company's bid to avoid federal labor law obligations "disappointing and transparent."

A Seventh Circuit judge on Monday pressed counsel for security company ADT to provide any legal authority or precedent to justify withdrawing its recognition of a union representing some of its employees based on a decertification petition that wasn't signed by anyone on the collective bargaining unit.

ADT managers should have to say out loud that abandoning the union that represented their workers for 26 years after the security company moved offices violated federal labor law, the National Labor Relations Board said, urging the Seventh Circuit to uphold the board's order to do so.
