A nonprofit that provides career opportunities for individuals with disabilities agreed Friday to pay $1 million to resolve a lawsuit from the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission accusing it of failing to provide sign language interpreters and firing employees who needed to take medical leave.

A nonprofit ran afoul of the Americans with Disabilities Act by failing to provide an American Sign Language interpreter for its deaf and hard-of-hearing workers and firing workers who asked to take medical leave, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said in a suit filed in Maryland federal court.
