At a hearing Thursday on whether Uber Technologies Inc. can invoke the Fifth Amendment on behalf of an employee accused of stealing self-driving car trade secrets from Waymo LLC, U.S. District Judge William Alsup said the issue seems destined for appeal and asked the Ninth Circuit to note "the obfuscation the poor judge has been subjected to."
