DACA was initially created through former President Barack Obama's executive authority and, alone, does not provide a pathway to permanent relief from removal or permanent residence. It provides temporary protection from removal (deportation) and work-authorization, granted in two-year increments, to a narrow population of young immigrants. On Sept. 5, 2017, the Trump administration announced the gradual termination of DACA. Most recently, a Federal Court fully blocked the termination of DACA. The Trump administration has already filed an appeal of this ruling and the future of Dreamers is uncertain, unless Congress passes a law that provides them with a path to lawful permanent residency and, perhaps, U.S. citizenship. ...
