By Yova Borovska​​​​​​​ ( February 16, 2018, 5:58 PM EST) -- The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program and its targeted "Dreamer" population have been the subject of extensive media attention in recent months. DACA was initially created through former President Barack Obama's executive authority and, alone, does not provide a pathway to permanent relief from removal or permanent residence. It provides temporary protection from removal (deportation) and work-authorization, granted in two-year increments, to a narrow population of young immigrants. On Sept. 5, 2017, the Trump administration announced the gradual termination of DACA. Most recently, a Federal Court fully blocked the termination of DACA. The Trump administration has already filed an appeal of this ruling and the future of Dreamers is uncertain, unless Congress passes a law that provides them with a path to lawful permanent residency and, perhaps, U.S. citizenship. ...
