The honor is awarded based upon the recipient's reputation in the industry, as well as their leadership, their creativity and their track record of handling complex matters — often on a global scale.
"General counsel are indispensable to management as they sculpt the success of corporate America," Burton Awards founder and chairman Bill Burton said. "The award winners we selected as 2020 Legends in Law far exceed our highest standards, and they are an example for all lawyers to follow. Throughout their careers they have become leaders, and have promoted and protected their companies."
The recipients were supposed to be honored in-person at the Burton Awards' June 2020 ceremony at the Library of Congress, but the event was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. The next ceremony is scheduled for June 14, 2021. Law360 is a sponsor of the Burton Awards.
