By Linda Chiem ( June 15, 2015, 4:44 PM EDT) -- Health insurer Cigna Corp. has rebuffed a takeover approach from rival insurer Anthem Inc., The Wall Street Journal reported Monday. Months of discussions between the companies resulted in Anthem making at least two takeover bids for Cigna within the past 10 days, with the most recent offer hitting $175 per share, the WSJ said. But Cigna hasn't been persuaded by the proposed tie-up and has rebuffed Anthem's efforts, according to the report. The rumored offer is the latest deal to emerge in the wave of consolidation in the health care sector and it appears that health insurers are in demand. Reports surfaced weeks ago that Humana Inc. was considering putting itself up for sale after several competitors, including Aetna Inc. and Cigna, approached it with a potential transaction. As of Monday afternoon, Anthem had a market valuation of $43.4 billion, while Cigna's market valuation jumped to $39.9 billion after news of the rumored takeover approach....
