By Linda Chiem ( July 24, 2015, 6:25 PM EDT) -- Square Inc. has filed confidentially for an initial public offering, Bloomberg reported Friday, setting Silicon Valley abuzz with prospects of the mobile payments company potentially going public as early as this year. Square, whose founder and chief executive is Jack Dorsey, the Twitter Inc. co-founder who recently returned to Twitter to serve as its interim CEO, has been working with Goldman Sachs Group Inc., Morgan Stanley and JPMorgan Chase & Co. on its IPO, Bloomberg said. Venture capital-backed Square started out in 2009 as the maker of a credit card reader that can plug into smartphones and other mobile devices that allows small businesses to process credit card payments. The startup has since expanded into point-of-sale software for merchants, peer-to-peer money transfers, commercial financing, and merchant payroll processing....
