Reading Between The Lines Of San Francisco's Retail Rules
Law360, New York ( July 29, 2015, 10:52 AM EDT) -- Last fall, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors passed two ordinances under the San Francisco Police Code affecting formula retail establishments in the city and county of San Francisco.[1] These ordinances, also referred to as the Retail Workers Bill of Rights, impose significant and far-reaching measures on large chain retail employers to improve working conditions for part-time employees, to retain incumbent eligible employees following a corporate change in control and to ensure more predictable scheduling for all employees. Both ordinances became operative against employers on July 3, 2015. The board of supervisors passed amendments to both ordinances, which the mayor approved on July 15, 2015. The amendments will become operative on Aug. 14, 2015. The major components of these ordinances, as amended, are outlined below....
