The BVI continues to demonstrate that contrary to popular opinion, it is committed to ensuring that entities that are domiciled in the BVI are not used for nefarious purposes. As testament to this, in April 2016, the BVI government entered into an exchange of notes with the government of the United Kingdom. The impetus for the notes was to ensure the BVI's continued compliance with the ever-changing international standards on transparency and anti-money laundering. In particular, finding a balance between making beneficial-ownership information readily available without compromising the privacy of those who, for perfectly legal and acceptable reasons, choose the BVI as the place in which to domicile an entity.
