A 1st Impression Of The Manafort And Gates Indictment

Gates III surrendered themselves to federal authorities after a grand jury for the United States District Court for the District of Columbia issued a 12-count indictment against them. The counts include conspiracy against the United States; conspiracy to launder money; failure to file reports of foreign bank and financial accounts for the years 2011 – 2014; failure to file reports of foreign bank and financial accounts for the years 2011 – 2013; false and misleading Foreign Agent Registration Act statements; and false statements made to the U.S. Department of Justice regarding their services as alleged unregistered agents of, among others: the government of Ukraine; the Party of Regions; former Ukrainian President Victor Yanukovych; and the Opposition Bloc, which served as the Party of Regions' successor. The DOJ has also issued a forfeiture allegation in this indictment, which will require in the event of conviction that Manafort and Gates forfeit to the United States government any property involved in this offense....
