A California federal judge on Wednesday approved a $5 million settlement that resolves two hard-fought consumer class actions over Hewlett-Packard Co.'s laser ink-jet printers, dismissing the objections of plaintiffs who argued the terms of the deal were unfair.

A federal judge has nixed a purported class action targeting Hewlett-Packard Co. over its color LaserJet printers that allegedly stop printing once a cartridge has mostly run out of ink even though some toner remains in the cartridge.
