EPA Asks Court To Rethink Halting Superfund Cleanup Plan
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency asked a Rhode Island federal court Wednesday to reconsider its order pausing a groundwater cleanup plan at a Superfund site because it found the agency made decisions in developing the plan that violated the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act.

EPA Superfund Cleanup Order Paused Over CERCLA Violation
A Rhode Island federal judge Thursday found the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency made decisions that violated the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act in developing a plan to mitigate health and environmental risks at a Superfund site, saying the remedial action can’t move forward until those decisions are addressed.

The federal government urged a Rhode Island federal judge Monday to force Black & Decker Inc. to pay at least $32 million for the cleanup of a Superfund site contaminated with dioxin and other pollutants from facilities that manufactured chemicals and handled hazardous military materials.
