FTC Renews Push For Sanctions Against Hi-Tech
The Federal Trade Commission urged a Georgia federal court Thursday to reinstate its finding of contempt and impose sanctions against executives at weight loss supplement company Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals Inc. after the Eleventh Circuit's decision earlier this year overturning the order.

Two executives of weight-loss supplement maker Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals Inc. jailed for contempt for failing to comply with a recall order urged a judge Thursday to free them, saying Hi-Tech has completed the recall under a $40 million sanctions package.

A Georgia federal judge on Friday rejected a bid by two Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals Inc. executives to release them from a contempt order that had put the executives in jail over the way they handled the recall of a weight loss product, and ruled that they would not be released until they fully comply with the recall requirements.

A Georgia federal judge on Wednesday ordered Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals Inc. and three of its directors to pay more than $40 million in sanctions to consumers and to recall four of its products with labels that falsely advertise that its dietary supplements cause substantial weight loss.
