A federal judge gave preliminary approval Monday to ABM Industries' $5 million agreement to resolve overtime and break claims for 7,000 California security guards, signing off after plaintiffs bolstered their request with information indicating the case would have netted $12 million to $16 million if successfully tried.

A California federal judge on Monday rejected ABM Industries Inc.'s $5 million agreement to resolve overtime and rest break claims on behalf of 7,000 Golden State security guards, telling the guards' counsel they need to provide evidence of companywide practices or policies that made the lead plaintiff's claims typical of the putative class.
