A California federal judge declined to say Wednesday whether he'll pause Alaska Airlines' $2.6 billion acquisition of Virgin America, but did tell the parties in an antitrust suit over the tie-up to prepare for trial as soon as December if the Justice Department approves the deal.

Passengers File Suit To Block $2.6B Alaska-Virgin Merger
A group of air travelers and travel agents filed suit in California federal court Wednesday seeking to block the proposed $2.6 billion Alaska Air Group Inc.-Virgin America Inc. merger, saying the tie-up would violate the Clayton Antitrust Act and result in higher fares and reduced service nationwide.
