By Hanley Chew and Tyler Newby ( July 23, 2018, 1:23 PM EDT) -- With the growing number of data breaches, states have been attempting to craft legislation that effectively responds to these breaches and protect their citizens. In the past year, the last three remaining states — Alabama, New Mexico and South Dakota — have enacted data breach notification statutes so that all 50 states now require notification to their residents in the event a breach involving the personal information of those residents. In addition, several states — Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Louisiana and Oregon — amended their existing data breach notification statutes the past year in response to the evolving landscape.
