As the Federal Trade Commission worked hard to further solidify its role as the leading U.S. enforcement authority in this field, state attorneys general continued to play the important parallel roles they have developed in recent years by expanding their use of joint, multistate investigations. In addition, while the federal government continued its inaction on data security bills pending in Congress in 2014, some U.S. states were busy at work on this issue, with several state legislatures introducing bills and laws that underscored the ever-growing importance of privacy and data security to the broader U.S. economy....
