The firm plans to roll out ideas through its own chatbot, known as Laila, or to work with outside providers to develop tools, Linklaters said.
Thomas Quoroll, a capital markets partner in Linklaters' London office, said in a statement that the sandbox "will help to supercharge the delivery of AI-based solutions across our business so that our people can apply these transformative technologies in service of our clients."
Linklaters has run two global ideas campaigns that focused on generative AI since early 2023. A team of lawyers from across the firm has evaluated those ideas, and a number have been taken forward to be developed into working prototypes, the firm said.
Ideas that have been shortlisted include those that focused on building credentials based on lawyer profiles and deal experience, as well as the ability to transpose edits across large sets of related documents, Linklaters said.
Linklaters said it is "assembling a workbench of best-in-class AI solution developers to help build out these ideas at pace."
The firm added that it is working with two developers, Simplexico and Springbok AI, to support the design, testing and delivery of prototypes. It will continue to look for others to complement the teams that it already has within the legal business.
"We've learnt what it takes to deliver meaningful solutions, we've brought in new capabilities and resources, and our understanding of where this technology can add value has continued to evolve — all of which has been reflected in the quality of ideas we receive and our plans to operationalize them," Greg Baker, Linklaters' global head of innovation, said in a statement.
