Deals Rumor Mill: PetSmart, Societe Generale, Atlanta Hawks

LP is reportedly among the buyout firms looking at snatching up PetSmart Inc., the Phoenix-based pet-supply retailer that's been up against shareholder pressure to sell the business, according to the New York Post. New York-based KKR is said to be considering the retailer after the sizeable return on its 2010 investment in U.K. pet supply retailer Pets at Home Ltd. following its nearly $2 billion IPO earlier this year. The Post reported that other logical bidders for PetSmart could include other private equity players such as Apax Partners LLP, Bain Capital and The Carlyle Group LP. PetSmart announced in August that it would consider a potential sale of the company after facing months of increasing pressure from investors — such as activist investor Jana Partners LLC, which had picked up a nearly 10 percent stake in PetSmart this summer — to boost shareholder value....
