Law360, New York ( June 13, 2014, 2:24 PM EDT) -- Tesla Motors Inc. CEO Elon Musk opened Tesla's patents to his rivals on June 12, 2014. In a blog post, Musk said "Tesla will not initiate patent lawsuits against anyone who, in good faith, wants to use our technology." Musk went on to explain that when he initially got into the industry, he worked hard to obtain patents as he felt they were key to his business success. He feels that now, however, that these same patents are stifling the progress of his industry. He explains: "We believe that Tesla, other companies making electric cars, and the world would all benefit from a common, rapidly-evolving technology platform." Musk's hope is that by opening the use of his company's patents, more electric car makers will get into the game and compete with gasoline cars....
