The Pennsylvania federal judge overseeing the multidistrict NFL concussion litigation said Wednesday the former NFL players who opted out of a settlement that ended much of the dispute should ask to file new complaints in the case.

Nearly 200 former NFL players and their families seeking recovery from an uncapped NFL concussion settlement on Monday objected to a 5 percent set-aside sought from their potential awards by the lead class attorneys from Seeger Weiss LLP and Anapol Weiss, arguing that such an amount is not appropriate at this time.

Anapol Weiss Opposes Attys Bid For NFL Concussion Fees
Anapol Schwartz Weiss Cohan Feldman & Smalley PC, one of the co-lead class counsel firms in the NFL concussion settlement, on Wednesday fought back against a Minnesota lawyer's contention that he was owed some of the $112.5 million fee requested from the football players' settlement for referring them clients, saying they never agreed to share these fees and that the lawyer did not do any work to benefit the entire class.

A group of retired NFL players took issue with the lead counsels' fee request in the landmark concussion litigation, asking a Pennsylvania federal judge on Friday not to approve the $112.5 million request because of a provision that asks for 5 percent of the settlement to be set aside for future costs.

NFL Class Says Ex-Player Is Spreading Deal Misinformation
The lead counsel for the class of former players in the NFL concussion settlement told a Pennsylvania federal court that a retired running back, Fred Willis, is spreading false information about the settlement agreement, telling class members that the doctors set up under the agreement are chosen by the NFL and directing them to a network of "player-friendly" doctors that he set up.
