Trump's New York Trial: Day 17

Stewart Bishop | 08:11:59 PM

“In this particular case, the evidence is literally overwhelming,” Steinglass says, finally wrapping up after six hours of summations.

“There is no special standard for this defendant. Donald Trump cannot just shoot someone on 5th Avenue and get away with it,” Steinglass says.

“Objection,” Trump counsel Todd Blanche says.

“Sustained,” Justice Merchan says.

Steinglass wraps up his approximately five-hour presentation to the jury by apologizing for trading “brevity” for comprehensiveness.

“We only get one shot at this,” he says, asking the jury to return a guilty verdict “in the interests of justice.”

After Steinglass closes out his summations at 7:56 p.m., the judge tells the jury that he would normally instruct them on the law at this point, but “that will not happen tonight, that will happen tomorrow morning.”

We’ll return at 10 a.m. tomorrow, he says.
